Our self defence techniques focus on a mix of both grappling and striking. Kicks, punches, strikes, blocks and nerve strikes are balanced with eludes, locks, throws, takedowns and ground holds. This traditional/MMA approach combining 'hard' and 'soft' makes Shorinji Kempo a highly effective system, equating to a potent blend of western boxing, Shaolin boxing, Okinawan karate and Japanese jujutsu. The self defence side also balances like yin and yang with therapeutic acupressure massage (seiho), seated meditation/mindfulness (Zazen), and philosophy is also practised during every class.
