What are Martial Arts?

A martial art can be defined as a system of techniques, physical and mental exercises developed as an effective means for self defence and offense, both unarmed and with the use of weapons.

Is Jiu Jitsu for me?

Jiu Jitsu is a means of self defence. But it is proven to build confidence, flexibility and strength of body and mind. It is a fun and interesting way to get fit, keep fit and lose weight with the support of passionate and supportive instructors.

How old do I have to be to train with you?

We take children from as young as five up twelve years old, when our children reach and age where they are ready we move them to our sister club that teaches older children and adults.

Will I get hurt?

Jiu Jitsu is very physical but because of the controlled way it is practised injuries are very rare. All our instructors are trained in first aid and are fully DBS cleared. After your first four weeks of training you will need your own insurance, which comes with your martial arts licence provided by NAKMAS, the UK Martial Arts governing body, and WYSOK (West Yorkshire Schools of Karate and Oriental Arts).

How do I get my next belt?

Kyu Gradings (coloured belt gradings) are held every three months. To get your next belt you have to perform techniques and show some knowledge of Japanese terminology in front of a panel of instructors.
