FAQs

What can I expect from my first appointment?

On your first appointment, we will ask you what issue you would like us to look at. In an effort to understand the progression of your issue we will also go through a thorough medical history and lifestyle to try ascertain a link between your issue and other possible causes and links.

What should I bring along with me?

Wherever available, please bring along any referral letters, scans, reports that you many have from your GP or consultant. A list of any medication you are taking.

How many treatments will I need?

Every problem and patient is different and the number of treatments will be discussed during the first visit. The number of treatments needed depends on your condition. For instance if you have chronic low back pain for example, you may need several treatments. For acute pain, one or two treatments may be enough.

Is my treatment going to hurt?

Where muscles and other soft tissue is inflamed, they may be tender to the touch which could cause some pain as we assess and treat the area with a variety of techniques. Massage in its various forms, for example, may cause some discomfort as the area starts to heal.

What are the side effects?

The side effects of manual therapy differ with each individual. Generally, mobility increases and you may experience some post treatment pain and due to the potential aggravation of tender areas during treatment. The physiological response to massage and manual therapy include an eventual reduction in pain and inflammation, an increase of the circulation of blood which ultimately improves and increases the chances of recovery.
