We all get those feelings don't we, when we look at others and feel jealousy or envy or triggered, right? And we see people that are further ahead than us, doing better than us, seem to have made better grades than us etc. etc. Sometimes we can feel like life is passing us by and we can beat ourselves up with that. But instead of that, when you get that feedback from yourself, usually in the form of unpleasant emotions, asking yourself.... 'Why isn't my work falling into place like them?' 'Why aren't I getting the grades that they're getting?' 'Why didn't I get the offers (at Uni) that they got?' And it's easy to fall into that 'woe is me' trap, feeling a little 'victim'. Instead, ask yourself these 2 questions: 1. What are they doing that I am not? 2. Am I willing to do those things - yes or no? Some examples: • Are they spending more time on their work than you? • Are they asking powerful questions to the teacher about how they can improve their work? • Are they using a study guide? • Are they approaching their work more experimentally? • Are they doing more than the bare minimum - or only what the teacher has asked? Powerful questions tend to start with WHO, WHAT, WHY, WHERE, WHEN, HOW. So rather than asking 'is this OK?' (about your work - that was a favourite of mine at school!) Why not ask 'HOW can I improve on this?' Or 'WHAT do I need to do to lift my grade above a B?' If you don't ask, you'll forever be in the dark.
