FAQs

What do I need to start learning to drive?

You need to be a minimum of 17 years of age with a valid licence (provisional/automatic or international). You will be required to read a new style number plate at a minimum of 20 meters.

Do I need to pass my theory before learning to drive?

No, quite the opposite. There are many benefits to learning your theory test alongside learning to drive with a driving instructor. You will be able to relate real-world situations to the theory test and your driving instructor will be able to assist you with any questions.

What will happen in my first lesson?

First lessons can be daunting but I design my lesson plans to be as relaxed as possible whilst still maintaining good progress. As it would be your first lesson with me it will be more about getting to know the car and basic moving off and stopping. You will receive a comprehensive overview of the controls and put this into practice. As the lesson progresses I will assess your skills and from that, we will then lay out a plan for future lessons.

Can I practice in my own car?

Yes, you can and I always encourage additional practice outside of lessons. Your own (or another person's car) can be used, providing the following criteria are met;

How long does a driving test last?

A standard driving test lasts around 40 minutes whereas an extended one will last at least 60 minutes (extended tests are more demanding and are court-ordered in situations where the licence has been revoked). With the standard driving test around 20 minutes will be classed as independent driving where you would follow street signs or sat nav the remainder of the test directions will be conveyed by the examiner.
