What do you think about modelling units? nnThis is my rig as of today. As a long term Kemper user who has also spent a fair amount of time on the Line 6 Helix, you might think this is a bit of a downgrade. In some ways, it is! My opinion has shifted substantially on hardware recently.nnAll of these incredibly function rich units seem to be a double-edged sword to me. While having a plethora of options is great for some, I have found it to be an enormous time-waster. Do I really need to dial in the perfect tone - does anyone really even care? Is adjusting the BIAS on profile no. 17 a few arbitrary points going to change my career? In an age where most stuff is listened to through phone speakers, why is everyone trying so hard for ‘tone’ anyway?nnThere’s an endless stream of players on here who have spent the best part of a house deposit on gear. High production value isn’t a substitute for being creatively bankrupt, and even so social media is a visual ecosystem anyway- spending money on a good camera will see a much better ROI than that shiny pedal will.nnAnd on that note, lets talk quality. There are so many garbage pedals now it blows my mind - I see £4000 mega-boards with utter shite on them regularly! Do you really need that old chorus pedal or 20 function delay for your music? Or is it just going to die halfway through your set and make you look like a clown? Can you even fix the damn thing if you have a problem?nnLimitations create brilliant players. Having any sound at my fingertips definitely hasn’t helped me write any good songs, or improved my technique and groove.nnWhen you see me playing live (things in the works for next year 👀) This will be it. No tricks, compressors, backing tracks, loopers, delays etc. Let’s get back to actual guitar playing, for once.
