To learn drums you've got to read music! I use a few really good books which cover a lot of styles and techniques with hundreds of examples of beats and fills. The Rockschool drum syllabus is excellent, especially 'Hot Rock'. Trinity now have a fine syllabus with many classic songs. Rockschool's 2018 GBD syllabus looks very promising. Playing along to a backing track is as close as you can get to playing with a band. Drum notation is actually pretty simple and there is a wealth of published material available.

I love that the music school organises end of term concerts so that the pupils get to play for an audience and get to be inspired by other students who are on higher grades.
After that I have been progresssing with lessons at the school on a regular basis I really enjoy the one to one tuition with Mark, who takes a genuine interest in his students, he shows lots of patience and professional understanding during the lessons.
Mark has taught me new chords, tabs etc and given me the confidence to start my grade 1, something I never thought I would do at my age 😊 Great music school, friendly and helpful!
