For those contemplating a test…..be sensible and honest with yourself.nTake the test ONLY when you feel readynDo not be pressured by anyone….its YOU that has to sit next to the examiner on the daynDo this ONCE and once only!nnAM I TEST READY?nnAs driving instructors we can only advise people about their readiness to take a test. nnYOU may think you are driving well when actually the instructor is:nn❗Reminding you to check your mirrors!nn❗Telling you when to change gear!nn❗Asking you what the speed limit is!nn❗Talking you through every manoeuvre!nn❗Telling you which lane to be in!nn❗Reminding you which exit to come off of on a roundabout because you forgot!nn❗Helping you when you can’t figure out if there is enough space for you to get your car through!nn❗Prompting you for your road position!nnIf all or any of the above apply to you, then you are NOT test ready!nnWhen the door closes, it’s just you and the examiner. nnThe test is the loneliest place to be, when you make a mistake and your brain goes to mush. It’s the worst feeling ever!nnRemember, those family and friends who urge you to just have a go for the experience, aren’t the ones having to go through it. People have very selective memorys when it comes to learning to driving and tests!nnAsk anyone who has failed a test if it was a nice experience!nnRemember it’s YOU doing the test, no one else. No phone to google answers, no help from anyone else. Just YOU!nnIf you are up to standard, you will still be nervous. It’s natural to be nervous on test day, but you won’t be doubtful of your ability!nnThis is a skill for life.nIt is a skill that may save YOUR life and other road users lives. nnWould you take an A level if you hadn’t studied enough, and then expect to pass it?nnTake a test when you are independent, comfortable with the skills and knowledge, and most importantly, SAFE.nnBuckle up and enjoy the ride.
