FAQs
Do I need to pre book?
Classes are Covid-secure and safe, just contact us with your email address to book your lesson. We have Assistant Coaches and Senior Students at the busier sessions to help accommodate new students.
Will I still be able to do the class?
The sessions are designed to cater for many levels of ability from complete beginner to seasoned veteran. Nobody turns up "ready-made" to a class. With regular training, fitness, strength and flexibility will all improve.
Do I need any special equipment?
All equipment is provided for new students in the sessions. All you will need to start with is to wear a T-Shirt, jogging bottoms and light training shoes, and bring a bottle of drinking water. Once you have established regular training you will be expected to have your own kickboxing kit such as hand wraps, gloves, pads, or wushu weapons such as swords etc. This can be acquired gradually over time so it is not immediately necessary to spend large amounts on equipment in one go. GMax can supply kit or advise on high quality, good value equipment that you can purchase yourself.
Are gradings compulsory?
Grading is a great way to benchmark your progress in the sport and build confidence. It is not compulsory for Kickboxing students to participate in gradings, but it is encouraged. Students studying Chin Woo Wushu are expected to grade regularly as they progress through the syllabus. All students can learn at their own pace and only grade when their coach feels they are ready to meet the requirements of the grading. Gradings in each discipline are held approximately every four months.
Do you teach MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)?
Mixed Martial Arts has developed over a number of years by employing the practical striking and grappling applications of many traditional martial arts techniques. Although GMax classes do not teach the sport of MMA, many techniques practised in both the Kickboxing and Wushu sessions are relevant to some aspects of MMA training.
