Calf raises or rises are one of my favourite exercises for improving your dance technique, and although traditionally associated with ballet technique this deceptively simple exercise will help build strength that is invaluable for all types of dance…n nAnd the best thing about this exercise is that you can adapt it to suit your current ability level and then increase the difficulty as your you develop. It’s so satisfying to master something that once was really tricky and moving up to the next level!n nAs a complete beginner I would recommend using a barre (or back of a chair or the kitchen work surface, whatever you have available to you) for stability and simply practice raising both heels off the floor at the same time , really concentrating on lowering your heels in a controlled steady way.
